He returned to India in 1952 and started career as an actor with movie Sangdil. He became Indian Champion and won the title of Rustam-e-Hind in 1954. He started Dara Film Studio at Mohali. In 1980, he moved to small screen and played Hanuman in Ramayan among other roles. In 1983, he retired from wrestling. In 2003, he became 1st sportsman to be nominated to Rajya Sabha. He died on July 12, 2012
