Avtar Singh Sandhu (September 9, 1950 – March 23, 1988) was born in Talwandi Salem, Jalandhar, Punjab. He published his first book of revolutionary poems, Loh-Katha (Iron Tale) in 1970 when he was not even 20. Due to his sympathies with the militant movement and the provocative nature of his poetry, he spent nearly two years in jail. He became involved in Punjab's maoist front, editing a literary magazine, Siarh (The Plow Line). He toured the UK and the USA. Pash, who was in Punjab for a holiday from the U.S., was shot dead by a group of Khalistani terrorists..
