Manoj Kumar, born on July 24, 1937 in Abbottabad (Pakistan), is an Indian actor and director. His original name was Harikishan Goswami. When he was 10 years old, his family had to move to India due to partition. He made his acting debut with Kaanch Ki Gudia (1960) and directorial debut with Upkar (1967). He has been given the name Mr. Bharat for his patriotic direction. He quit acting after Maidan-E-Jung. He won Film fare Award as a Best actor for Be-imaan (1972) and as a Best Director for Roti Kapda aur Makaan (1975). He was honored with Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992 and Film fare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
