He completed his PhD on "Folkloric Elements in the Bani of Guru Nanak Dev", Patar Joined Punjab Agriculture University and got a Professorship there from which he retired in 2004. He has held the office of the President, Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana.

He became involved in Punjab's maoist front, editing a literary magazine, Siarh (The Plow Line). He toured the UK and the USA. Pash, who was in Punjab for a holiday from the U.S., was shot dead by a group of Khalistani terrorists..
