Mother Teresa : Saint of Calcutta

Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910 at Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. She was an Albanian born Indian-Roman-Catholic nun. At the age of 18, she left her home and joined Sisters of Loreto. After a few months, she was sent to India and she started teaching in St. Mary’s School in Calcutta from 1931 to 1948. She founded Missionaries of Charity on October 07, 1950. This society of Missionaries provide effective help to the poorest of the poor in a number of countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. During the last years of her life, she continued to govern society and respond to the needs of the poorest church. She spent her final weeks in Calcutta and her earthly life came to an end on September 05, 1997. She was given the honor of State Funeral by the Government of India. She was honored with Padma Shri in 1962 and Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 by the Government of India.
